Could I have Lyme Disease Doctor?

This hilarious cartoon captures well the response I received from a prominent Infectious Disease specialist referred to in Queensland 18mths ago when I suspected Lyme Disease as the cause of my decade of illness. Fortunately I pursued other avenues to receive the antibiotic treatment that has assisted my recovery to this point, and I have been able to do many things I never thought I would again - thanks to the truly inspiring dedication of my attentive Doctor who cared enough to listen.

  2. Lyme Green Australia, I think your blog is brilliant. You deserve a medal. Have you any idea of the location where you were bitten by a tick? Was it in NSW or Queensland? (I was bitten by a tick about 6 months ago near Lake Weyba.)

  3. Thank you for your comments, I was bitten north of Townsville during my time in the Cardwell Ranges & local woodland areas. It was a 60-80 km hiking & lilo-ing survival camp run by a team building organisation organised though my local high school. After everything I think I will be OK, I never thought I would have been, but my progress has truely astounded me, and I feel like I have been given a second chance. Please be aware of the Australian Lyme forums for support and Lyme aware doctor advice, and the Karl McManus Foundations efforts on Lyme. I spent a couple of nights at Lake Weyba in the last 12 mths, are local to that area and are you on treatment?

  4. Thank you for the information. I had not realized there are Lyme disease-bearing ticks in Qld. I am not being treated for Lyme specifically but have been undergoing treatment for Chlamydophila pneumoniae (Cpn). I still have lingering brain fog and most likely this is due to the original Cpn infection rather than Lyme, but I cannot be sure. I will look into it further. I am very grateful for your help, and as I said before, your blog is fantastic and you have some great links on it. Well done!

  5. I notice that the link to "Does Lyme Borreliosis Exist in Australia?" is now dead. The pdf document can nevertheless be found by searching for http://www.jstd.org/journal/vol1no2/v1n2-Exist.pdf on the wonderful InternetArchive's Wayback Machine at http://www.archive.org
(This is a nice trick to remember next time you encounter a dead link.)
Hmmm... having problems posting using my LJ account... trying my Google one

    1. Thank you for that tip...when I have opportunity I will try to maintain my blog for another round. It is difficult with spam and bots not to mention links and disapearing evidence over the years. Not to mention keeping it current given my poor health of recent years. Unfortunately while I had gotten into remission and full time work after apropriate active lyme and co treatment from 2009 and then maintainance once in remission, some doctors were targeted and stopped from treating patients from 2013/14. Within months of life off my maintenance medicines my health crashed and I have almost died during multiple hospiitalisations each year from 2014 onwards. A scary trendline. Just released once more slowly on mend with bandaid solutions until next time...

  6. Lyme disease is tick borne, bacterial infection that is relatively common in the United States. Not very unusual, not very exotic, so what is it and why there is so much controversy surrounding it. First discovered in 1975 in a town in Connecticut where it derives its name, lyme disease is caused by the spirochete, Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb).
